Bed & Bedding No matter how exciting it might be for you, for your new puppy moving to a new home is a stressful experience. For the first time he or she is going to be parted from its mother and siblings. It's also going to be removed from the only surroundings it has ever known. So the more comfortable you can make life for your new puppy, the better. Having its own bed it can retreat to with a blanket for comfort will make the whole experience easier for your puppy to bear. Puppy Crate Puppy Crates have become extremely popular. Not only are they ideal for transporting your new puppy to its new home, a puppy crate will prove useful when taking your puppy to the likes of the vet, or provide a place of retreat when it's under the weather or feeling stressed. It will also be useful when leaving your pup on its own in the early days. Naturally you should make sure your pup has access to fresh water at all times, and a blanket and a few toys will also make it feel more at home in its crate. Food & Water Bowls Your puppy will need separate, tip-proof food and water bowls. These may need to be upgraded to a larger size when your puppy is older. Food Your breeder should be able to provide you with a diet sheet so that you know what food and in what quantities to give your puppy. Initially it will probably be an age-appropriate puppy food. Quality is imperative when feeding your pup. Give your growing pup the very best, and ensure that throughout its life you feed it only quality, nutritionally-rich dog food to keep it both happy and healthy. Collar & Lead Initially you will need a puppy collar, to be upgraded to a proper dog collar as your puppy grows. Depending on the breed, puppies grow at an astonishing rate so check daily to ensure that your puppy's collar is not too tight. Identity Tag By law, all UK dog owners must have their contact details inscribed on a tag attached to their dog's collar. Failure to comply can result in a fine of up to £5,000! Grooming Equipment It is a good idea to get your puppy used to grooming from the outset. See our Dog Grooming feature.
