Chronic Superficial Keratitis |
|
Chronic Superficial Keratitis (CSK)(also known as Pannus) is a progressive, inherited eye disorder which results in constant inflammation of the cornea (the clear outer layer of the eye). Over time, Chronic Superficial Keratitis results in progressively impaired vision.
There is no known cure for Chronic Superficial Keratitis, and dogs found to be suffering from this condition should not be mated. It can be controlled with immune-suppressing drugs, but once diagnosed, a dog will be required to be prescribed with these drugs for life. Dog breeds known to be particularly affected by this disease include the German Shepherd Dog, the Greyhound, the Belgian Tervuren, Siberian Husky, Australian Shepherd and the Border Collie. The cost of treatment for this problem can amount to many hundreds of pounds over the course of your dog's life. Don't wait until your dog is found to be suffering from Chronic Superficial Keratitis before considering dog insurance.
