Hound Dogs

The Hound Group comprises dogs developed to work with humans in hunting game for both food and sport. Members of this group, which vary greatly in size and appearance, can be further subdivided into scenthounds and sighthounds (also known as gazehounds). Scenthounds track their quarry by making use of their superior olfactory organs, tracking their prey by scent rather than sight. Sighthounds on the other hand use their keen vision and superior running speed to detect and hunt down their prey. Sighthounds are amongst the fastest, tallest and most ancient of all dog breeds. Members of this group need considerable amounts of exercise and control because the hunting instinct is still strong in most of them.
