The smallest breed of dog in the world, the Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where it is believed to have been developed from the Techichi, a Mayan dog known to exist as far back as the 5th century. Amongst the longest-lived of dog breeds, Chihuahua's have been known to live into their 20s.
