A large member of the Working Group of dogs, the Portuguese Water Dog (PWD) is a water spaniel once prevalent all along the Portuguese coast. It was used by fishermen to act as boat-to-boat couriers, to herd fish into the fishermen's nets and to retrieve lost fishing tackle.
